The AC blower motor in your Porsche is a direct current electrical motor attached to a squirrel cage fan blade to blow air through the dash, floor, defrost, and rear passenger vents. The AC blower motor is usually found behind the dash, but vehicles with rear AC may have a separate AC blower motor in the rear or in the center console. This allows for the front and rear of the vehicle to have independent control of the air flowing through the vents. The AC blower motor is capable of spinning at varying speeds based on current flow to the motor from the blower motor regulator controlled by the fan setting of the driver.
AC blower motors fail when the electrical coil winding of the motor overheats and burns out leaving the magnets in the motor unable to energize and spin the motor.
Replacing Your Porsche AC Blower Motor
Replacing the AC blower motor in your Porsche can be a simple task depending on its location and accessibility. AC blower motors located on the passenger side of the vehicle, behind the dash, often have an access panel below the dash in the passenger footwell. They can also be installed facing up under the passenger side of the dash and would not require the removal of any panel to be accessed. AC blower motors located in the rear or center consoles require the removal of the interior body they are behind.
